The cold holiday breeze may be coming in—but let’s not forget that Earth continues to warm up. Climate change is real, and we can do our part by gifting eco-friendly items this Christmas

1. Tumblers & reusables
These not only make great gifts, but they’re also a good way to get friends started on living sustainably. Tumblers and other reusables, such as cutlery, tote bags, and lunch-boxes, can immediately reduce the use of single-use plastics.

2. Artisanal goods from small businesses
Supporting home- or hand- made delicacies and products benefits not only the foodies in your life but also local farmers—and the environment! Local products don’t require as much shipping compared to imported goods, leaving a smaller carbon footprint.

3. Plant-based treats
Gifting plant-based treats may encourage friends to eat less meat, which is a good thing: meat production requires large- scale feeds production and produces high carbon emissions.

4. Eco-friendly toiletries
Living sustainably means changing up your lifestyle—and incorporating eco-friendly goods even when it comes to hygiene! Cut down on plastic use by gifting shampoo bars, wooden toothbrushes, and even menstrual cups.

5. Compost kits
Plantitos and plantitas will definitely appreciate a compost-making kit! It’s beneficial not only for their plants, but it also keeps food wastes out of landfills. A bonus: it’s a gift they’ll use all year- round!

6. Vegetable or herb plant kits
There’s something magical about growing your own food, and it’s also a great way to get someone to be more conscious about where food is sourced.

It bears repeating: prioritize recycled or recyclable and locally sourced and made gifts —and of course, use eco-friendly packaging. Every little thing counts towards the health of the climate. This way, you’re not only giving gifts to your friends; but you’re giving back to Mother Earth, too.
